It was a great series for the Kansas City Royals as they swept the Seattle Mariners in a four game series. They finished up the sweep with a 12-0 victory on Thursday afternoon. It was a dominating performance out of the pitching staff as well as the offense.

Left-hander Zack Greinke tossed the first seven innings of the game and only allowed two hits while improving his record to 12-10. Greinke now has a 3.59 ERA for the season. Jimmy Gobble and Joel Peralta each pitched an inning of relief after Greinke was taken out of the game.

Mike Aviles led the team at the plate with a three-run home run and three rbi’s. He was then followed by Alex Gordon and Mitch Maier with two rbi each. Up next was David DeJesus, Joey Gathright, Ryan Shealy, and Mark Teahen with one rbi each.

Great series for the Royals who will now play the Chicago White Sox in a weekend series. The Royals can spoiler as the White Sox are in a battle with the Twins for the division.

Kyle Davies threw eight strong innings and the Kansas City Royals shut out the visiting Seattle Mariners on Monday night by the score of 3-0. Davies only gave up four hits and then Joakim Soria came in for the ninth inning and picked up his 38th save of the season.

It was awesome watching Davies and Soria on the mound as they just made the Mariners hitters look silly at the plate. It’s too bad we didn’t see much of this during the season.

Mike Aviles scored the first run for the Royals on a wild pitch by Carlos Silva in the first inning. The second Royals run came in the fourth inning when Mark Teahen singled to score Jose Guillen. The Royals picked up an insurance run in the seventh inning when Tony Pena Jr.scored on a infield single by David DeJesus.

Good win for the Royals! Royals Blog

The Kansas City Royals gave up five runs in the eighth inning and they lost to the Cleveland Indians by the score of 8-5. The bullpen simply didn’t get the job done when they were called upon on in the eighth inning. Once again, it was a game the Royals should have won but they did not.

Ramon Ramirez was charged with two runs while Joakim Soria was charged with three in the five run eighth. Soria ended up taking the loss and it dropped his season record to 1-3. Royals starting pitcher Gil Meche tossed a great game as he lasted seven innings and only allowed two hits and three runs. Good quality start for Meche it is just too bad the bullpen had to blow it.

Mike Aviles had the big hit for the Royals in the game when he hit a three run double to clear the bases in the fifth inning. After the Aviles doubled, he stole third and scored on an error by Kelly Shoppach. Jost Guillen had the other rbi when he had a rbi sac fly in the first inning.

The Kansas City Royals completed a three game sweep of the Oakland Athletics with a 4-3 victory in 11 innings on Wednesday afternoon. The Royals have now won four straight games! Most Royals fans have to be sky high right now with the four wins in a row lol!

Jose Guillen hit a rbi sac fly to score Esteban German for the winning run in the eleventh inning. I wonder if Guillen even said a word afterwards with the way he has been demanding a trade. Guillen also had a rbi single the sixth inning as he finished the game with two rbi. Mike Aviles and Mitch Maier both contributed with an rbi each as well.

Brian Bannister gave up eight hits and two runs over five innings to get the no decision on the mound. Horacio Ramirez was charged with one run as he pitched when Bannister was taken out of the game. Ramon Ramirez ended up getting the win while Joakim Soria nothced his 30th save of the season.

Good job by the Royals! I need to let all the readers know that I will be out of town until August 12th as I will be at a conference out of town for the next couple of weeks. If there is a Royals fan out there that would like to do some blogging and game recaps, please email me by clicking the contact us link at the top of the blog and I will send you some details.

Thanks – Cliff

The Kansas City Royals scored three runs in the seventh inning and went onto defeat the Oakland Athletics 5-2 on Tuesday night. John Buck provided the three runs on a three run home run. Without Buck’s homerun, I don’t think the Royals would have won this game. However, the Royals will now be going for the three game sweep on the A’s on Wednesday!

Besides Buck going deep in the seventh inning to provide three rbi, Mike Aviles and Mark Grudzielanek both had a rbi to help out. Grudzielanek had a rbi sac fly in the fourth inning while Aviles hit a solo home run in the sixth.

Gil Meche picked up the win on the mound and is now 9-9 on the season. Meche pitched seven innings and only allowed five hits and two runs. It was about time that the Royals offense scored more then a few runs so Meche could pick up another victory. Ron Mahay pitched a scoreless eighth inning before Joakim Soria finished things up to record his 29th save.

So will the Royals get the sweep on Wednesday? Come back and find out! Royals Baseball

What a nice comeback win for the Kansas City Royals who looked dead until the bottom of the eighth inning. Two runs in the eighth inning for the Royals were enough to come from behind and beat the White Sox for a 2-1 victory. With the win, the Royals were able to avoid the three game sweep as well.

Mike Aviles and Jose Guillen both had rbi doubles in the eighth inning for the Royals. Aviles double was off of White Sox starter Mark Buehrle and Guillen’s came off of Octavio Dotel. The Royals weren’t done scoring however as Mark Teahen added a two run inside the park home run to extend the Royals lead to 4-1.

Royals starter Zack Greinke pitched awesome as he pitched seven innings and only gave up six hits and one run. The one mistake by Greinke came in the fourth inning when Jermaine Dye it a solo home run. That was the only run the White Sox would get however. Ron Mahay tossed a eighth inning to get the win and then Joakim Soria closed the door on the White Sox in the ninth to record his 24th save of the season.

The Royals have one series left before the All Star break as they will start a three game series on Friday against the Seattle Mariners.

The Kansas City Royals and Chicago White Sox played 13 innings on Tuesday night and it was the White Sox that came away with the 8-7 victory. After the Royals tied things up in the 11th inning with two runs, they gave up a run in the 13th inning and were unable to tie the game once again and fell to the White Sox.

Orlando Cabrera hit a rbi double in the 13th inning off of Robinson Tejeda who took the loss for the Royals. Tejada is now 0-1 on the season. Horacio Ramirez gave up two runs in the 11th inning for the Royals as well. Starting pitcher Kyle Davies pitched 5 2/3 innings and gave up nine hits and three runs. Joe Crede did take Davies deep for a solo home run in the game for the only long ball of the night. Ramon Ramirez gave up two more runs as he pitched 1 2/3 innings after Davies left the game. The pitching staff just didn’t have it on Tuesday night.

The Royals were led by David DeJesus and Mike Aviles at the plate as both players had two rbi each in the game. Alex Gordon, Miguel Olivo, and Esteban German all had one rbi each. Aviles and Gordon were the two players with a rbi in the 11th inning that extended the game even further.

The Royals will now try to tie the series up at 1-1 with a victory on Wednesday. Royals Blog

It was a frustrating ugly game for the Royals saturday at Kauffman Stadium. The Royals 6 game winning streak was ended tonight by the Cardinals by the score of 5-1. The Royals struggled to get anything offensively and looked like the pre-interleague play Royals with 1 run and 5 hits in the game. Kyle Davies pitched well in the first few innings before the Cardinals scored the first run of the game on a throwing error by Mike Aviles that looked like an easy double play ball but Aviles threw it into the dirt and the ball bounced away from 1st baseman Ross Gload.

Aviles bad throw was not the only defensive play that cost the Royals. Joey Gathright lost a ball in centerfield that dropped amd scored a run. Miguel Olivo made a pretty horrendous error by dropping the ball after tagging out a runner at home. No it was’nt a ball jarring collision at home that caused Olivo to drop the ball, he just dropped it. But the Royals lost this one not entirely because of these mistakes but more because they could never really put anything together. They never had a rally the whole game. In the 7th inning it looked like a rally was beggining but on a run scoring hit Olivo was sent home by 3rd base coach Luis Silverio. Olivo was thrown out by a mile by Cardinal catcher Yadier Molina.

Billy Butler was called up from triple-A Omaha today before the game but was not in the line up on saturday night. After struggling at the major league level recently Butler was sent down and hit very well. Alberto Callaspo was placed on the 15 day DL after he was arrested for running a red light late at night and was charged with a DUI. It is unknown whether the arrest has anything to do with the arrest.

What looked like a no doubt loss to the SanFransisco Giants half way through the game ended up being an amazing comeback win by the Royals. Down 10-3 going into the 5th inning the Royals scored 2 runs in the inning. But it was the 6th inning that got the Royals tied with the Giants after a 5 run inning. In the 7th the Royals would score the run that would put them ahead for good as they won 11-10.

The young phenom pitcher Tim Lincecum had the Royals struggling early and go scoreless through the first 2 innings. In the 3rd the Royals were able to get 2 runs on the board. Lincecum went 5 innings with 8 strikeouts and gave up 5 earned runs. Kyle Davies started the game for the Royals and he did not get very far into it. After 1.1 innings and 5 earned runs Davies was taken out. This was dissapointing with the good starts Davies has had recenlty.

In a game that ended 11-10 you would expect atleast a couple home runs, but that was not the case in this game. There was not a single home run out of the 21 run game. In saturdays Cubs-White Sox game that had 18 runs scored there were six home runs. Now I realize that these 2 teams are pretty much the polar opposites of the White Sox and Cubs right now, but still it’s pretty surprising that not a single run came from a homer. There were a lot of players with RBI’s today but Dejesus and Aviles have continued hitting well today, with Dejesus having 2 RBI’s and Aviles despite only getting 1 hit had 3 RBI’s.

The Royals have now won 3 strait series and will face the Colorado Rockies at Kauffman stadium next. The Rockies are 32-44 on the season.

Man, where were all these runs in yesterday’s game. After being shutout yesterday in a 10 inning game the Royals were able to put up some big numbers today against Randy Johnson and the Arizona Diamondbacks. The Royals won 12-3 tonight in what may have been the best performance of the year for the Royals.

The Royals hit 3 home runs in this game with two of them being back-to-back to start off the 6th inning from David Dejesus and then Mike Aviles. The other home run came from the bat of John Buck for his 3rd home run of the season in the 5th inning. It is great to see the Royals hitting well during the last week or so considering how bad the hitting was early in the season. Jose Guillen also came through with 2 RBI’s to put him at 52 for the season. That is good enough for 3rd in the American League in RBI’s and it looks like he could break last year’s RBI leader Emil Brown’s 62 before the All-Star break.

It was an all around well played game for KC. Pitcher Luke Hochevar pitched 7 innings with 2 earned runs and 6 strikeouts. It was also good for Luke to get some run support, which he hasn’t gotten any of this year. Carlos Rosa made his major league debut tonight and got his first strikeout after being called up from AAA Omaha earlier this week in place of Brett Tomko.
