Kila Ka’aihue is back in the majors, but how he is going to get many at-bats with the Royals remains a question mark.
Ka’aihue was summoned Tuesday from Class AAA Omaha, where he was hitting .304 with a .466 on-base percentage and a 1.086 OPS, when outfielder Rick Ankiel went on the disabled list with a pulled right quad.
Ka’aihue, who topped the Pacific Coast League with 24 walks, joined the Royals on Wednesday in Chicago but was not in the lineup. Ka’aihue is a first baseman-designated hitter. The Royals have Billy Butler at first base and Jose Guillen as the designated hitter, and they are two of their most productive hitters.
