The 40-year-old third baseman hit a two-run walkoff homer in the bottom of the 11th inning on Wednesday night to end a wild 15-13 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies .

The walkoff was the eighth of Chipper’s career and the scaled-back celebration at home plate signaled that he’d been there before. Actually, check that, because we know the Braves took age and injury history into consideration while lightly slapping him on the back.

Baltimore: LHP Tsuyoshi Wada will undergo Tommy John surgery Friday. Orthopedist Lewis Yocum will perform the operation in Los Angeles. Wada, 31, signed a two-year, $8.14 million deal with the Orioles in December, but he hurt his elbow in spring training and opened the season on the disabled list. … RHP Tommy Hunter’s start was moved back from Saturday to Sunday at Boston after he had an ingrown toenail removed. RHP Jason Hammel will start Saturday on the regular four days of rest thanks to Thursday’s off day. …
