Kansas City Royals right-hander Henry Barrera received good news Saturday after an MRI of his aching elbow and should be able to resume throwing in two to three weeks. The hard-throwing rookie, who missed most of the past two seasons after having Tommy John surgery in 2009, walked off the mound Friday with pain in his elbow after facing only one batter in an intrasquad game.

Right-hander Jeremy Jeffress, acquired in the trade that sent Zack Greinke to Milwaukee, and second baseman Chris Getz were among six players to agree to one-year contracts with the Kanas City Royals. Getz hit .237 and stole 15 bases in 17 attempts last year. The 23-year-old Jeffress was 1-0 with a 2.70 ERA in 10 relief outings for Milwaukee last season.

Kansas City Royals prospect Henry Barrera walked off the mound holding his right arm and wincing in pain during the team's final intrasquad game. The team said the preliminary diagnosis was Barrera has a strained right flexor, and he was scheduled to have an MRI. A club spokesman said it would be 24 to 48 hours before the full extent of the injury would be known.
