Billy Butler hit a late two-run homer and Zack Greinke pitched eight strong innings as the Kansas City Royals rallied for a 4-3 victory over the Baltimore Orioles Saturday night. After Jason Kendall singled in the eighth, Butler sent a drive over the Orioles bullpen in left field for his 12th homer. It came on a 2-2 pitch from David Hernandez (5-8).

The NL East-leadinf Atlanta Braves have acquired outfielder Rick Ankiel, reliever Kyle Farnsworth and cash from the Kansas City Royals in a five-player deal. Atlanta sent pitchers Tim Collins and Jesse Chavez and outfielder Gregor Blanco to Kansas City on Saturday. The 31-year-old Ankiel hit .261 with four home runs and 15 RBIs in 27 games for Kansas City.

Home plate umpire Wally Bell left the Baltimore-Kansas City game in the top of the sixth inning Friday night. Bell was led off the field by Royals trainer Nick Kenny. Todd Tichenor, who was the second base umpire, replaced Bell behind the plate and the game continued with a three-man umpiring crew. Bell, 45, who had open heart surgery in 1999, has umpired in the major leagues for 17 years.

The Royals have promoted Greg Holland from Triple-A Omaha to fill the roster spot of outfielder Scott Podsednik, who was traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Royals announced the move before Thursday's game against the Baltimore Orioles. The 24-year-old Holland was 3-3 with a 3.81 ERA and three saves for Omaha.
