The Kansas City Royals and starting pitcher Brian Bannister shut down the New York Yankees Tuesday afternoon as the Royals beat the Yankees 5-2.  Bannister out duled Yankee hurler Phil Hughes to pick up the victory.

Bannister allowed two runs, five hits and four walks in five innings, striking out six. Joakim Soria pitched the ninth for his fourth save in four opportunities.

Ross Gload led the Royals with two RBI, while Mark Grudzielanek, Mark Teahen, and John Buck chipped in with one RBI each.  The Royals were stealing bases like crazy in the game as well as they swiped 5 stolen bases.  Joey Gathright had three of them himself.

The Kansas City Royals were not able to extend their record to 4-0 on the season as they lost to the Minnesota Twins by the score of 4-3 on Friday evening.  Now the Royals record stands at 3-1, but I think if you ask any Royals fan, they would take that record in a second!

Jose Guillen, Billy Butler, and John Buck each had one RBI for the Royals, but they just couldn’t get that big hit to put them over the top.  I still like the way they are hitting the ball, and good things will come if they keep putting the ball in play.

John Bale picked up the loss for the Royals.  Bale pitched 6.1 innings giving up four earned runs.  He didn’t pitch too badly, just a couple of mistakes that he will need to learn from and hopefully they won’t happen in his next outing.

Wow, who would have thought that the Kansas City Royals would have swept the Detroit Tigers to open the 2008 season?  Great pitching and timely hitting helped the Royals move to 3-0 on the season.

Zack Greinke picked up the win and Joakim Soria picked up his second save of the season.  Greinke pitched seven innings and allowing six hits and only one earned run.  Great performance by Greinke today!

Alex Gordon and Mark Teahen both hit homeruns for the Tigers today.  Gordon hit a 2 run shot in the 4th inning and Teahen hit a solo homerun in the 6th.  In the 7th inning, Carlos Guillen singled in Joey Gathwright.

Great job Royals!

Brian Bannister and the Kansas City Royals held down the powerful Detroit Tigers once again on Wednesday.  With the win, the Royals move to 2-0 on the young season.

Bannister threw seven shutout innings.  He only allowed three hits, which all came off the bat of Edgar Renteria.  Bannister struck out 4 while not allowing a walk.  You gotta love that!
